DIVELOG Version 1.0 beta

DIVELOG is a program to handle the history of your diving. I began
diving only recently and already my dive book contains some very fond
memories of people, places, and dives. It has also gotten wet several
times and is a bit tough to read in places.
I wrote DIVELOG so I would have a permanent record of my diving
activities. It is not finished yet. It will have the ability to print
a log book and at lease some search capabilities. Also, if I get any
feedback from people who use it, it might have almost any other
feature.
I enjoy programming. I do it for a living (Operating system software
for large scale IBM mainframes) and as a hobby (TURBO PASCAL on an IBM
clone). So if encouraged by some feedback on this version of DIVELOG
the next could be almost anything we want.
DIVELOG consists of one program, this documentation, and three data
files which you create by using DIVELOG. The data files are:
CONTROL.DAT Information about up to 24 divers who are using this
copy of DIVELOG.
LOCATION.DAT Information about dive locations.
BUDDY.DAT Information about dive buddies.
When DIVELOG starts it looks for these files. If it can not find
CONTROL.DAT you may have DIVELOG create one or look for one on a
different path. If any other data file is not found in the same
directory as CONTROL.DAT DIVELOG will offer the option to create it.
During all updating the arrow keys will move the cursor around the
input fields. If there are multiple input screens, as when entering
diver information, <Page Up> and <Page Down> will move between
screens.
In order to enter or update a field move the cursor to it and press
<enter>. You will either be given a menu to choose from or a field to
type in the data. After you type data in press <enter> to accept the
data you keyed or <escape> to abandon the changes.
When you have entered all the data press <escape>. You will be asked
if the data should be placed in the database. Reply <Y> or <N>. All
fields do not have to be filled in to add a record and all records may
be updated later.
At the main menu you may choose to work with divers or locations. If
you select divers you will be given a list of divers the system knows
about to select from. A final selection is to add a new diver.
After selecting a diver you may add new dives, list and update
existing dives, or update control information for the diver. If you
are adding a new diver you are taken right to the control information
update.
While listing existing dives if you press <F1> you will be put in
update mode for the current dive.
Information about the location of a dive may be entered on the dive
screen or you may select from a list of locations. To select from the
list move the cursor to "Dive Location" at the top of the screen and
press <enter>. Now select a dive location from the list or add a new
one. After selection a location you will go back to the dive screen
and all the information from the location list will be filled in. Any
of this information may be changed for this dive.
If you want to update location information in the database select
locations from the main menu. This will give a list of locations that
you may select and update.
Finally, there is a database of diving buddies. When you press <enter>
to update the buddy name or divemaster name you can select someone
form the supplied list or add someone.
If you have any problems I am on CompuServe most days so please ask.
Also again let me say that if I get feedback about this program I will
make changes to it and if I get no feedback I will assume the program
is perfect <grin>.
Now the commercial.
Written by Peter Williams, DIVELOG is supplied for personal, private
use. Feel free to distribute DIVELOG given these restrictions

which includes this documentation
o no fee is charged
o for-profit use without a license is prohibited
